Description:

One of the world's preeminent expedition and National Geographic photographers, Gordon Wiltsie, will be teaching you how to capture the essence of adventure in his workshop, Shooting Adventure Photography. This workshop is not one to miss if you are looking to learn how to creatively capture adventure enthusiasts, such as rock climbers and mountain bikers in picturesque mountain scenery. Open to any level of photographer, Gordon offers personal one-on-one attention to all of his students. This workshop is geared to helping you to broaden your perspective when finding the vital moment in adventure photography. Gordon will show students how to really “go the distance” when trying to get the perfect shot in adventure photography; for there is no one more apt than Gordon who has shot in some of the most intense and inhospitable conditions around the globe. If you are looking to enhance your work using simple and creative lighting techniques, there will be a lighting overview in the classroom, as well as daily critiques and presentations. Workflow for rapidly processing photos will also be covered during this course. Students are encouraged to bring in work previously photographed.

Students should bring their portfolios, DSLR camera, tripod, laptop and the corresponding digital software and cables to download for critique.

Biography:

After more than 25 years leading and photographing expeditions to earth's wildest corners, Gordon Wiltsie has achieved international acclaim for his visual artistry. His work appears regularly in leading magazines such as National Geographic, Life, American Photo, Outside, National Geographic Adventure, Ski, Geo, and dozens of others. He also shoots on location for a broad mix of companies seeking creative, adventurous images for their products.

Gordon is in high demand and most of his work over the last two decades has been shot on assignment, often under tight deadlines. Some of his more famous projects have included documentation of famous mountaineering, skiing and dog sledding expeditions to the edges of the known world, where there is no room for error or reshooting. He gets it right the first time. But even more than exploration, Gordon loves seeing familiar things in new ways through a camera. He is equally comfortable shooting ski areas, exotic cultures, family adventures and a wide variety of products being used outdoors.

Gordon is also relaxed with a palette of styles, from crisp, classic documentation to riskier, more flowing images that break the rules and push the limitations of cameras, lenses and flash. He loves working closely with art directors and his assignments are almost always an adventure.
